Homemade Hair Color Dye Recipes: How to color your hair naturally Red at home with herbs
Adding red highlights and tones to brown or black hair is simple with natural ingredients. The more applications you do, the more red you'll see. Certain roots, herbs, teas and flowers for red dyes can create warm, bright highlights to your color.
Beet juice has been used for centuries to give hair a warm, reddish tint.
Red Highlight Hair Color Recipe
Ingredients: 1/2 cup beet juice, 1/2 cup carrot juice
Directions: Mix ingredients together, pour over clean, damp hair. Wrap head in plastic and apply hot towel, medium dryer heat, or sit in the sun for one hour. Shampoo then condition
Hibiscus flowers mixed with Alkanet root makes a strong red dye.
Red Hair Color Recipe
Directions: Steep the flowers and roots in 3 cups boiling water for 30 minutes. Strain the mixture and allow to cool. Apply to clean, damp hair, place plastic cap on hair and allow to set for 30-45 minutes. Shampoo hair then condition as normal.
Rooibos, Red Tea is a simple way to add red highlights to brown hair.
Rooibos Tea Color Recipe
Ingredients: 4 Rooibos red tea bags or 3 tbs loose tea, 2 cups boiling water
Directions: Boiling the tea for 10 minutes. Allow to cool. Apply to hair for 30 minutes. Rinse.
Cherry bark is perfect to use on black hair for red highlights and tones. And Bilberry Fruit gives a dark purplish, blue tone in hair color. Combined together, they make a perfect dye for dark brown to black hair to give a nice deep reddish tone.
Deep Red Hair Rinse Recipe for Dark Hair
Ingredients: 4 tbs Cherry Bark, 2 tbs Bilberry Fruit 6 cups boiling water
Directions: Boil the mixture for 60 minutes. Strain and allow to cool. Apply to clean, damp hair, place plastic cap on hair and allow to set for 30-45 minutes. Shampoo hair then condition as normal. Cherry bark is great for conditioning the hair.
