Hair serum is actually easier and cheaper to make than you think. A store bought serum generally runs anywhere from $5.00 upwards of $30 depending on the brand. With a few simple natural ingredients you can create your own hair serum for usually under $15 and at least triple the amount of what you'd buy at the store. An added benefit besides cost is you can skip adding silicones to your hair serum. Store bought serums are loaded with silicones that over time, coat the hair causing it to weaken and break after extended use.
Below are great homemade hair serum recipes that you can also use as deep hot oil treatments. But these are generally used before drying or as a finishing product to reduce frizz and enhance shine.
How to Use your Homemade Hair Serum
1.) First option is to use about the size of a quarters worth and apply to towel dried damp hair before blowdrying.

2.) Second option is to apply 3-4 drops to palms, and apply slowly to ends, working upwards towards midshaft, below roots of hair. Remember, you can always add more so start off with less and add more if needed.

Always store serums in a Dark Glass Bottle
Jojoba Oil is a highly penetrative emollient that closely resembles the natural sebum within the skin. Jojoba is actually a liquid wax. Great to use as a basic hair serum.

Coconut Oil stimulates hair growth, softens the hair and conditions the scalp. Also known to help eliminate dandruff!

Castor oil is rich in fatty acids and is soothing and lubricating. Smoothes cuticles and softens coarse hair

Avocado Oil is highly therapeutic oil is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B5 (Panthothenic acid), Vitamin D, E, minerals, protein, lecithin and fatty acids. Perfect hair moisturizer. Great substitute for silicones!!!!

Aloe Vera Oil is different from Aloe Vera Gel. By using the oil, you can add the healing properties of aloe vera to your product without needing to worry about the bacterial and mold growth that can occur when using the pure gel. Use this instead when making large amount of hair products that won't be used quickly.

Acai Oil is rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and Vitamin C. Acai Oil helps to nourish and condition dry and damaged hair, making it an excellent ingredient for use in natural hair care.
